Photos + Review: Bush @ Uptown Theater (Minneapolis, MN)

Bush (London, UK), Badflower (Los Angeles, CA)

Getting very close to clutch holiday time, so I might be keeping this review a bit short.

Even with doing this concert photography thing for close to a decade, it still surprises me. In the types of opportunities I’ve been given through it and the amount of fun I will sometimes (well, more than sometimes, who am I kidding) have.

I grew up a radio listener. KXXR 93X was always the go to, first programmed station in any radio I would have. Because of that station there’s a big group of bands that I look to as the foundation of my hard rock (and heavier) inclinations. There’s Guns N Roses, Metallica, Sevendust, and in particular to this instance, Bush. I could not tell you how many times I’ve heard “Glycerine,” “Comedown,” and especially “Machinehead.” That opening riff to “Machinehead,” has lived in my head rent free for 30 years now, to the point that when I’m playing my guitar and absent mindedly noodling around, that’ll be what I go to.

I’ve been incredibly lucky with how many bands I’ve seen that I grew up with, due to photography, but it’s been a bit since I’ve had one of those “holy crap!” moments. I was a little taken aback when that “Machinehead” riff started, and I took that part of the three songs to just kind sit (stand?) back and just take it all in. Going from hearing it as basically every sports game, to in a live real setting with the band in front of me was awesome.

The band played fantastic, with a great production all around. I love all the lighting, and the sound of the band filled the new Uptown Theater as nicely as the space looks. I’m continually surprised at this new space each time I attend, and love that we have it.
