The Myth in Maplewood, MN
As I write this, this is probably going to be a shorter review. Because what is there to say? Underoath is great live. I’ve known this for years now.
I first got the chance to see Underoath in 2018. It was following their release of their first album post-hiatus “Erase Me,” which was the album that got me into the band. I liked the album, but it was there live show that really brought me in as a fan. I’ve written before on this, but I love it when old music takes on new life years (or in this instance decades) after the fact due to bands getting better and more experienced. Songs from “Define the Great Line”, and “They’re Only Chasing Safety” sounded so much better to me back then at that first show of mine compared to on record.
Nothing changed this time around, after seeing them last Wednesday in celebration of the 20th anniversary of “They’re Only Chasing Safety.” I was a little bit disappointed in not getting to hear any songs from Erase Me, but I’m a sucker for getting to hear albums played in full live. They usually get turned into favorites of mine, like Senses Fail’s “Life Is Not A Waiting Room.” There’s a better than good chance that I’ll continue to latch onto this album too. So thanks Underoath for giving this album new life and being the cause of new good memories.
Oh also, I learned that the band is from Tampa this night. All the thoughts, and well-wishes and anything else of the like are being sent to the band and their families to get through hurricane Milton.
