The Armory in Minneapolis, MN
Back when I first started concert photograph, I used to make it a point to shoot all bands on a given night I’d be out, even if I was only really interested in the headliner. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve loosened on that given rule for myself because prior burnout and feeling the need to make more time for myself.
Every once and a while though a band or artist comes along that I’ll gladly make the effort to go super early to catch them because I view them so highly. LØLØ is the artist this time around to be me excited enough to be stoked to catch and cover.
LØLØ’s been grinding in the scene for what seems like many years now, and I recently had my biggest exposure of her while watching the Warped Tour live streams on Twitch. I was really impressed and when I soon after got invited to cover her set up here in MN, I was immediately in for it.
After watching the Twitch streams, I watched some live videos on YouTube, which definitely didn’t do any justice. After the Youtube vids, I was left worrying about playing and singing to backing tracks. Normally I’m pretty pro doing such a thing, especially when done tastefully, but when it comes to seeing LØLØ live and in person, I was definitely impressed.
When it comes to pop punk, LØLØ definitely leans more on the side of pop than punk. However as a whole, LØLØ has vibes to her music that harken back to 2003 Avril Lavigne, and even similar to Olivia Rodrigo. While I don’t think I’m quite the market demographic for some of the songs, like “hot girls in hell,” I can’t deny that the hooks are catchy as hell. “Don’t,” “debbite downer,” and “Faceplant” were favorites of my from Warped Tour stream, and I was happy to be able to see them in person.
My biggest takeaway from this nights show and becoming familiar with LØLØ and her music, is she has every right to make it huge in the industry, and I would bet a lot of money on it coming to fruition. She has that “it factor.”
