House of Blues in San Diego, CA

My first show of the year brought me out to my favorite venue in the city.  Milky Chance along with support act Lewis Capaldi were set to headline the very sold out House of Blues in San Diego.

I made my way over directly from work and caught the tail end of Lewis Capaldi’s set.  I made it inside just in time to see the crowd swooning as they heard Capaldi’s soulful voice.  With the minimalistic setup of some keys and every now and then a guitar, Capaldi’s voice filled the very full room and left us ready for Milky Chance to pick things up a bit.

The boys in Milky Chance hit the stage doused in the most dramatic pinkish-blue lighting interrupted only by the occasional green tones.  They started the night off with “Clouds” off of their latest release, Blossom.  Singer Clemens Rehbeein and guitarist Antonio Greger held their ground up front as they belted out vocals and jammed out with their guitars whenever possible.  They also had their percussion team made up of DJ Phillip Dausch and Sebastian Schmidt on drums who made sure the crowd had plenty to move around to.

From the energy in the venue you wouldn’t have thought it was Monday night at all.  The crowd became more and more pumped as the band worked through their setlist.  With only Blossom and Sadnecessary to pull material from the crowd got to hear all of their favorites, from “Down by the River” to “Stolen Dance” which we got in the encore.  After watching the German band slay the House of Blues it’s no surprise the majority of their US shows are sold out.  If they’re hitting your town and tickets are still available, do yourself a favorite and check Milky Chance out. You will not regret it.  Tour dates are here.
