We write, we photograph, we interview, we make music. What else is there left? PRESENT SHOWS!

Triumphantly returning to Madison after conquering the hearts and minds of Chicagoans, Archie Powell & The Exports will rock your socks off (Katia’s socks can attest to it) at Madison’s own Project Lodge (lovingly known as ProLo), this Saturday! What better way to kick off the midterm malaise, or gear up for the 20 hour trip down to SXSW and SXWI, than a rock show? Madison’s Sat. Nite Duets will be opening for the guys, playing songs off their 2010 album, One Night OnlyMuzzle of Bees drew comparisons to Pavement and Lou Reed. Sat. Nite Duets had a last minute cancel, but in lieu, we’re bringing P.C. Allen and Double Ewes to join the party! P.C. Allen and Double Ewes will also be at the upcoming SXSW Wisconsin showcase, SXWInext Thursday. Big thanks to the illustrious Wyndham Manning for helping out!

Eleven local Chicago bands to watch for 2011 – Chicago Tribune“A former Wisconsinite, Powell inhabits the ragged-but-right mold of an aw-shucks transplant trying to make sense of his new surroundings by expressing frustrations and restlessness via tunes equally at home in a basement or neighborhood pub.”

Powell does ‘work’ on debut – The Daily Cardinal
“Powell is what I expect most people assumed Rivers Cuomo would become. Powell’s power-pop is more developed, more pronounced, yet his demeanor is less boyish. Instead of Kiss and Dungeons and Dragons, he writes about flaky friends and getting the heat shut off.”

Archie Powell & The Exports Decide to Skip Work – Chicagoist
“When they snag a T. Rex riff you find yourself smiling along at the band’s wink as they turn it on it’s head and slam it into a rave-up of a chorus. In fact the most remarkable thing about this album is that there ain’t a stinker of a melody in the whole collection.”

However if you can’t make it cause you’re stuck in Chicago, without a car, or enough money for a taxi up north, Shani Silver’s got you covered over at Refinery 29 with her picks for the week in the Windy City!
